Tune up was $110, tire was about $90 complete, the clutch was $140, and the rest was minor stuff and tax.
The $400 doesn't seem too extravagant. It included some electrical ($45), to plug in some wires under the seat that had worked loose. I could have done it myself, but it would have taken an afternoon to hunt down the intermittant tail light loss.
The bike has 23000 miles. I got it with about 18000, and that same tapping noise when cold.
I think I can make 30,000. Hopefull more.
As for the tire cupping, I check the pressure regularly, and it is always good. I do a lot of mountain driving. Could that be the problem? Again, the tire has less than 4000 miles.
